As a non-profit educational organization, we provide free and low-cost financial literacy educational programs and certify value-based investment analysts specialized in Graham-Buffett value investing. CSA Institute, based in New York, New York, is NOT affiliated with CFA Institute based in Charlottesville, Virginia. The Certified Securities Analyst (CSA) program is different from the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Program in that CSA exams focus on securities selection and practical investment research. We focus on the two most important courses as specified by superinvestor Warren Buffett, namely, (1) How to think about the market, (2) How to value a business. Our curriculum is mainly based on the Old Testaments by Benjamin Graham and the New Testaments by Warren Buffett. Our supplemental reading materials are based on the work of superinvestors like Eddie Lampert, Charlie Munger, Joel Greenblatt, Peter Lynch, etc., etc. Our global markets division provides training in other fields of investing like foreign currencies and global investments.

We are dedicated to the Old Testaments written by Benjamin Graham and the New Testaments written by Warren Buffett is necessary. Our CSA professional certification program is being launched for the purpose of teaching the good old art of plain vanilla stock picking.

A Certified Securities Analyst (CSA) certified can be issued to qualified candidates after (1) completing three years of training and self-study by studying the literature and methods of Graham and Buffett, (2) passing a comprehensive examination on accounting and financial analysis, and (3) defending three in-depth investment research reports.

Our written exams are designed to firmly implant the value investment frameworks into a candidates long-term memory. A majority of the written exam is centered around financial accounting and analyzing SEC disclosure documents.

Even for our written exams, we often use real-world real-time case study materials relevant to practical and actionable investment opportunities.

To successful prepare the CSA written exams, a candidate must be able to quickly read through piles of financial disclosures and arrive at the essential facts and key drivers.

In addition to proctored exams every year, the three-year CSA Program involve multiple research reports to be submitted by candidates for grading:

1) Initial summary reports on three of your best investment ideas, at least one page per idea. Your written executive summary will be graded by value investing experts. You may get follow up questions via email or phone regarding your research work. A candidate risks being disqualified or barred if cheating or plagiarizing is discovered. All insights, findings or reports from other sources must be properly cited.

2) Yearly self-directed research reports based on a book or an intellectually challenging subject about investing, accounting or business management, etc. You can select that book(s) or the topic but it has to be approved by CSA Institute. A book too thin or too easy would not meet the level of difficulty requirement.

3) Yearly designated research thesis on an investment situation or subject chosen by CSA Institute.

4) Yearly research reports on the single best investment idea a candidate can identify during the year.

5) A Final CSA Dissertation upon graduation: This is project is as challenging as a PhD dissertation in the field of value investing. You have three years or more to complete the dissertation. The topic and outline must be pre-approved by CSA Institute. You must submit your dissertation before you complete the three year CSA Program. You may have to present and defend your dissertation in front of CSA candidates and expert examiners. All your reports and exam papers will be graded by CSA Institute. Upon paying a small administrative fee, you have the right to request grading comments and test records and put forth one appeal in front of the CSA Exam Committee.
